1. Eligibility - The Washington Youth Tour is open to any high school student who is "activelyenrolled" at the junior class level, lives in south Bryan, Liberty, or McIntosh counties, and is at least16 years old at the time the tour begins
2. Applying - Applicants can apply online or submit a paper application. Applicants who apply online will be entered in a drawing for an Apple Ipod Nano. Only applicants who meet eligibiility requirements ( see #1) will be entered in the drawing.
3. Top applicants, winners - Coastal Electric Cooperative will host a Washington Youth Tourcontest in Bryan, Liberty and McIntosh counties. Each contest will be conducted individually. The five highest scoring applicants in each county will be invited for an interview. Interviewj udging criteria will include general knowledge, speaking ability, poise, personality, andprofessionalism. There will be a delegate and an alternate selected in each county.
4. Deadline and sending the application - All applications must received at Coastal Electric Cooperativeby February 20, 2008. You can apply online at www.CoastalElectric.coop. If you submit a paperapplication it must be on this form. Mail your completed application to: Attn: Washington Youth Tour,Coastal Electric Cooperative, P.O. Box 109, Midway, GA 31320. 5. Judging - Applications and application materials will be reviewed by a panel of judges.Applications will be rated as follows: 25 percent Character, 25 percent Commitment toacademics, 25 percent Involvement with school, community, work, 25 percent Leadership traitsand skills.
6.Winner Scholarship - Each winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The awarding of thescholarship is contingent upon attending the Washington Youth Tour. If the delegate cannotattend the WYT, the delegate will forfeit the scholarship and it will be awarded to the alternate.
7. Alternate Scholarship, Responsibilities - The alternate will receive a $500 scholarship. If aselected delegate cannot attend the alternate for that area will be asked to attend the WYT. If thealternate for that county cannot attend, a drawing will be held among the remaining twoalternates to determine the order for seeking another delegate. Any alternate who attends theWYT will receive a $1,000 scholarship, instead of a $500 scholarship.
8. Decisions - Decisions regarding winners are final.
9. Dinner - Winners and their parent(s)/guardian(s) are expected to attend an orientation dinner in March.
10. Trip - On June 12, 2008 delegates will travel to Atlanta for the kick-off banquet before flying on toWashington D.C. Delegates will return on June 19. Transportation to Washington, as well as thereturn trip, will be provided by one of the major airlines serving Atlanta's Hartsfield InternationalAirport. Transportation to and from Atlanta will be the responsibility of Coastal ElectricCooperative. All delegates will fly home to the Savannah airport.
If chosen as a delegate, I will attend an orientation dinner in March and the 2008 Washington Youth Tour, June 12 to June 19, 2008.
In addition, I understand that I will receive a $1,000 scholarship to use for a college or technical education. The awarding of the scholarship is contingent upon me attending the Youth Tour. If I cannot attend, I will forfeit the $1,000 scholarship and an alternate will attend.
I understand and agree that my name and or photo may be used in publicity about the Washington Youth Tour with no compensation to me.
I understand that if I am selected as a delegate or an alternate I will be expected to attend an orientation dinner in March.
I have discussed this trip will my parent(s)/guardians. They are aware that I am applying for this trip and they have given my permission to apply and attend if selected.
