Walter Harrison Scholarship

Coastal Electric Cooperative is part of the statewide Georgia Electric Membership Corporation Walter Harrison Scholarship Competition. Harrison was known in Georgia and across the nation as “Mr. Rural Electrification” for his pioneering efforts in the electric cooperative industry and his lifelong dedication to improving life in rural areas.

In 1985, the electric cooperatives of Georgia founded a scholarship to honor the late Walter Harrison. Coastal Electric selects three nominees to compete for the $1,000 statewide scholarships.

More than $100,000 has been awarded since the program began. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.

Winners

Scholarship winners for the 2008 competition will be announced in April.
