ScholarshipsCoastal Electric Cooperative can help you achieve your educational goals.We offer two scholarship programs: Coastal Electric Cooperative Foundation ScholarshipDeadlineThe deadline for the 2008 scholarship was March 31. Please check back again for the 2009 application deadline. EligibilityResidents of south Bryan, Liberty and McIntosh counties who are graduating seniors, college students, or adult students returning to school are eligible to apply. PurposeThe $1,000 scholarships are for undergraduate studies and are non-renewable. JudgingApplications are judged on the basis of commitment to community, intergrity, accountability, innovation, and financial need. WinnersThe Coastal Electric Cooperative Foundation awards six $1,000 scholarships. Winners will be announced in May. Submissions
FundingScholarships are funded by Operation Round Up, a program in which members voluntarily round their power bill up to the nearest whole dollar. The small change makes big differences. Walter Harrison ScholarshipCoastal Electric Cooperative is part of the statewide Georgia Electric Membership Corporation Walter Harrison Scholarship Competition. Harrison was known in Georgia and across the nation as “Mr. Rural Electrification” for his pioneering efforts in the electric cooperative industry and his lifelong dedication to improving life in rural areas. In 1985, the electric cooperatives of Georgia founded a scholarship to honor the late Walter Harrison. Coastal Electric selects three nominees to compete for the $1,000 statewide scholarships. More than $100,000 has been awarded since the program began. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need. WinnersScholarship winners for the 2008 competition will be announced in April. ApplicationsThe application period for the 2008 Walter Harrison Scholarship competition has past. Information on the 2009 Walter Harrision Scholarship will be posted in January 2009.
